Project: Biofuel Pamphlet

What types of biofuel are used in vehicles?

Teacher Note

Use this summative project to help students relate what they know about fuels to new technology used to create new fuels. Students can complete their pamphlets in pairs or small groups.

Check over each student’s table before they actually make the pamphlet.

Emphasize to students that a table helps them organize data and improves their ability to compare and contrast related content in the table.

Use information from the Internet to create a digital pamphlet that gives information for three different biofuels that currently are being researched by chemists. Before making the pamphlet, make a table where you can fill in the following information for each biofuel:

  • name of the biofuel and its chemical formula
  • how it is made
  • the type of engine for which it is designed
  • a list of the reactants and products as it goes through combustion
  • an explanation of how this biofuel is better than fossil fuels for the environment
