Photosynthesis
Project: Mimicking Photosynthesis
How can photosynthesis be performed in a laboratory?
Teacher Note
This is a good activity for students to work on with a partner or in a small group. It is a good opportunity for students to make connections with the lesson concept and the advance in both technology and design that the study of photosynthesis has brought to a field. Allow students a chance to display their findings in the classroom, particularly if it is not possible to upload their display. Use this as a formative assessment to check that students understand the connection between photosynthesis and biomimicry.
Humans have often found solutions to problems by looking to the natural world. Sometimes scientists try to replicate natural processes in a technique called biomimicry. Biomimicry is the design and production of materials and systems modeled on biological materials and systems. Using biomimicry to produce artificial photosynthesisglossary term (opens in a new window) is an interesting topic of current science research.
